NHS Oldham CCG

Confirmation of Trent Road closure

At a meeting held on 24 October, NHS Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group’s (CCG) Primary Care Commissioning Committee approved a request made by Parks Medical Practice to close its branch in Trent Road, Shaw, with effect from 31 January 2020.

The branch surgery currently operates two morning GP surgeries a week, and in its application to the CCG, the main practice highlighted its concerns in relation to being able to continue to run the branch whilst still being able to provide quality care, and good and effective access to services for its registered patients.

The practice held a consultation with its patients between June and August and the CCG’s Primary Care Committee reviewed and discussed its application for the branch closure at two meetings held in public.  The CCG discussions and decision were based on the practice’s overall ability to provide safe and high quality care, national regulatory factors for the level of services that must be provided at branch surgeries, and also the appropriateness of the building at Trent Road when providing clinical care.

The CCG’s Chief Operating Officer, Mike Barker said: “While as a CCG we appreciate this decision may be disappointing for those patients who prefer to use the twice weekly surgeries at Trent Road, as a commissioner of NHS health services we have to prioritise quality, safety and access issues in the delivery of primary care.

“As all the patients are registered with The Parks Medical Practice, and can continue to use its services in Royton Health and Wellbeing Centre, they do not have to do anything, however, we have put in some dedicated support and advice in place should any patients wish to move to an alternative practice.”

All patients registered with Parks Medical Practice can continue to receive their care at Royton Health and Wellbeing Centre, and no patients will be required to find a new GP practice.

If any patients registered at The Parks Medical Practice wish to change their GP, they can do so by approaching any other practice directly. All Oldham GP practices are currently open to new registrations. A list of practices with their contact details can be found on the NHS website at https://www.nhs.uk/Service-Search/GP/LocationSearch/4.
