Fond farewell as Oldham GP retires after 26 years

Dr Rajesh Saraf, who has been a GP in Oldham for 26 years has decided it is time to retire.

He began his career at the Saraf Medical Practice as GP registrar and took over the practice single-handedly in 1996, where he has stayed ever since.

Dr Saraf has been an accomplished GP trainer for many years and it’s fair to say that he is well liked among staff and patients. He is going to be really missed.

To mark his retirement a surprise event was held at the practice on Thursday 23 June hosted by NHS Oldham CCG and Primary Care Network.

On the right is a picture of Dr Saraf when he hosted a party for practice staff at his home last weekend.

Staff at the practice have said how much they, and their patients are going to miss Dr Saraf and have a few words they would like to say about him:

Sharon Whittingham – Practice Manager:

I have been Dr Saraf’s practice manager since 2007, he is extremely supportive and genuinely cares for his patients and his staff. We have many fond memories, and he will certainly be missed. Dr Saraf certainly deserves a happy and healthy retirement after all the years of continued support and caring for his patients. I wish him all the very best and will without a doubt miss him and the staff enormously, thank you Dr Saraf you are amazing, Sharon.

Joanne Weston – Receptionist:

I have been part of Dr Saraf's admin team since 2013. Thank you for all your support and guidance over the years. I have thoroughly enjoyed working for you and will miss you very much. You truly are a lovely man. Enjoy every minute of your well-deserved retirement, wishing you all the luck for the future, Jo x

Carole Whittaker – Receptionist:

From the first day I started to work for Dr Saraf he has been friendly, helpful and a real pleasure to work for. He is a gentleman and has always helped me when I needed him to. I can honestly say I have loved working with Dr Saraf, and I will miss him a lot. I wish him all the very best in his well-earned retirement, best wishes Carole.

Debra Fitton – Receptionist:

I have learnt so much from Dr Saraf! (although he scared me a bit in the beginning LOL) He has over the years gently pushed me to be more assertive, which I definitely needed, and I feel so much more confident about my whole job after my three and a half years working at the practice. I will always be extremely grateful to him. He deserves a very happy long retirement, Debra.

Veronica Doyle – Receptionist:

It has been a pleasure working at the practice with you and all the staff. You have made an impact in my 10 months, yes that’s you Dr Saraf. You're smart and funny and a professional too and I for one will certainly miss you. Thank you for everything, Veronica x

Karen Perrins – Practice Nurse:
