Starting late March 2019 we will be working with Oldham Healthwatch, Dr Kershaw’s Hospice and others to co-produce a new End of Life pathway for Oldham, with a timescale likely to be 12 to 18 months.
Despite the fact that we are all going to die, this is a subject most of us find very difficult to discuss - perhaps until it is too late. However, we want to look at this area in detail together with those with direct experience – either those of us approaching the end of life or caring for someone at this time.
We are keen to fully co—produce the new pathway (see Oldham’s Involvement Levels). This will be a very interesting piece of work looking at the whole issue – across health and social care, and commissioners and providers. We are also keen to understand more about the beliefs, preferences and experiences of all of Oldham’s diverse communities to help shape our new approach.
We are currently at the very first stages of scoping this work but its not too early to share your views – especially about what we should be looking at, what makes a ‘good death’ and what matters most to you about how and where we are cared for as we approach the end of our lives.
